Stewardesses on the tarmac
Clean lines in yellow and blue defined the Lufthansa stewardess uniform that was introduced in 1970, deliberately reflecting the airline’s brand colours.
The modern, tailored cut with blazer, skirt and coordinated accessories added a touch of elegance and professionalism to the look. The uniform reflected the spirit of the 1970s and became a defining part of Lufthansa’s international brand identity.

Aircraft seat on the tarmac
In 1957, Lufthansa introduced what it termed the “Comforette” seat in First and DeLuxe Class, setting new standards for comfort in the sky.
This generously padded seat offered significantly more legroom and could be reclined well back for a more relaxed journey.

Phonetic alphabet
Alpha to Zulu – the international phonetic alphabet ensures clear, precise communication in aviation.
Every letter is replaced by a specific word to avoid misunderstandings over the radio. This allows pilots and air traffic controllers to exchange precise information even when the radio signal is poor. The alphabet used today was introduced by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in 1956 and has since become the global standard in aviation.
