With the second edition of these over-ear headphones, Apple has introduced a few upgrades, including up to 1.5 times more Active Noise Cancellation*. Powered by the H2 chip, AirPods Max 2 also produce an even more intense and detailed Hi-Fi sound. The new amplifier means powerful bass notes, natural-sounding voices, and precise instrument localisation - supported by a noticeably wider and more open soundscape.

***The tests were conducted by Apple in January and February 2026 using AirPods Max 2 prototypes connected to commercially available iPhone 17 Pro Max devices; all running software prototypes. The playback list contained 358 audio tracks from the iTunes Store (256 kbit/s AAC). The volume was set to 50%. Active Noise Cancellation was turned on. 3D audio was set to "Fixed". For the tests, the AirPods Max played music until the batteries were completely emptied and the AirPods Max ceased to play. The battery runtime depends on device settings, the surroundings, usage and many other factors.
