Flor de sal means "flower of salt". Flor de sal consists of crystals of the thin crust of salt that develops in calm conditions on the surface of seawater in salt pans. This is collected using special sieves just a few hours after it has formed and is allowed to dry in the sun. Try putting a pinch of this sensational Portuguese sea salt on - for instance - a piece of fresh ciabatta together with a couple of drops of olive oil - you'll enjoy a taste sensation you'll never forget!
